no more mr nice guy

well, gang. three years and 517 posts later, it's time to stick a fork in this here blog. i think it's done, don't you?

professional and personal obligations have kept me from giving it my best. and those obligations are just getting more and more obligatory. so. it was fun while it lasted and i've loved reading every last one of your comments and emails (and even meeting a few of you). but. it's become more of a chore and a source of guilt than it has been a joy. so, for every season, etc.

i'll still be around, though, lurking in the dark corners of the internets. you just have to know where to look.

my love and gratitude goes out to you all.

well, most of you all. ok, maybe like 11 of you. Eight, tops.

Oh, no. Say it ain't so! I've read your blog more faithfully than I have a certain publication over the last 10 months.
But if you insist on ending it, let me just say that publishing 517 funny, compelling and well-written posts is an impressive achievement in itself--especially on top of all your other obligations.
Guess I'll have to seek you out in those dark corners.

517 posts is definitely an impressive run. I can barely keep a blog running for a month.
I will miss reading your blog though. I check it every day at work in case there were updates.

Ha. Wow. I discovered your blog 10 days ago and have thoroughly enjoyed blowing off work since then to read all 517 entries in kinda quick succession. I just finished this morning.

So I'm glad I get a chance to say thanks for the tears, the laughter, and the nausea. Would it be too forward of me to say I _luv_ you Mr. Nice Guy? Probably. Embarrassingly goofy? Definitely. But goddamn it if I didn't get some serious warm fuzzies reading your blog. And that was just for the whiskey and ralphing entries.

Okay, I'm off to raise a six month old daughter armed with the names of a couple of decent kid's musicians, fond memories of your sweet turns o' phrase, and the precious knowledge that I'm not alone in simultaneously wanting to hold tight to my baby and run far far away.

Thanks! My best to you and Mrs. and Toddler Nice Guy.

I very much enjoyed reading your blog and the funny daughter stories and felt like I learned something about "cool" when you would spread your love of musicians I certainly have never heard about (me, not cool). Anyway, bummer dude, will miss it.

Dear SILNG
Thank you so much for all the insight into your family's lives. This was often the only way to know what went on in your very busy lives. Sit back, drink a single malt, take some time off and reconsider. Toddler nice guy should give you plenty of fodder for this blog, her silver sequined sneakers, her mermaid crown, her beautiful smile, her monies and her love for both mng and png. You have made me laugh like no other and I'll miss your posts. Hoping you'll return sometime.
Love you. MIL Nice Guy.

I started reading your blog as a peek into the world of those "other" Slark Popers -- the pregnant ones and the ones with kids. Then, when I became part of that crowd (my daughter was born this past March), I started going back and reading a couple of months ahead of wherever I was in the pregnancy/babyhood to find out what was in store for me. Good thing your blog gives me two more years of guidance -- guess I'll have to figure out the rest on my own.

Best of luck to you and your family.

Best of luck to you and the little misses and daughter. And, I totally understand the desire to keep some things private for your daughter. My oldest now turns to me and says, "No, you cannot put this on your blog" when she sees me reaching for a piece of paper and a pen. Sigh. My muse is growing up. Nooo! I have to admit I'm not a blog reader but I've been faithfully following your blog for the last two years. Before we moved to NYC from California I became paranoid (neurotic?, yes we moved to the UES) about what it would be like for my husband and I to raise a child in NYC. (no child yet, however, we enjoyed vicariously living through your humorous life experiences). I think I landed on your blog by googling nyc subway pregnancy and baby or something to that effect. I will now have only the nytimes to read about children growing up in NYC and how day care damages them permenantly and you should only feed your child organic food and they may still end up at only a liberal arts college and not Harvard. I will miss your realistic parenting approach and I hope that there are more well-grounded parents around the ny area tot-lots when we decide to have a child, because I've only seen scary neurotic parents in our neighborhood.
