probably old news to all of you in the intertubes

this has been making the rounds. an incredible video; beautiful, chilling and ballsy coming from a major cosmetic corporation. mrs nice guy was one among several people who sent it my way. her pointedly understated comment: "this is what it is to raise a daughter in the modern world." simply brilliant.

on a not-entirely-unrelated note, here's david letterman proving that he's still got a little bit of fight in him. here is more of what it is to raise a daughter in the modern world. depressing. and hilarious. and also brilliant:

That video would be awesome if it weren't also part of a beauty ad campaign. Oy. On another note - did you ever mention here that you'd written an article in a very very widely read national magazine? Because I saw it! Am I way behind the times? Or were you hoping no one would notice?

And you would've gotten away with it, too, if not for your kid's distinctive name . . .

I like to think that stuff you wrote about--the generational differences between the parenting you do and the parenting your father did--is on the same note as the dove thing. We'll have a whole generation of girls (and boys) growing up with v. involved and nurturing fathers and mothers. That's I don't know something like a systemic shift.

okay, what national magazine? what writing?! tell me! I don't have time to look this stuff up--I'm a mom, too! there's no pleasure reading! and what is the kid's distinctive name??? man, you skip reading for a few days and look what happens.

and I just L O V E Dave L's jail questioning of the pixied Paris H. he is quite relentless, and he rocks so very much.

p.s. you inspired me, MNG--finally got a blog o' my own.

I, too, discovered the secret writing alias....I was first clued in at the naming of your first born, but my suspicions were instantly confirmed when, toward the end of the article, you mentioned locking your kid in the apartment. Although I consider you a superb and superbly entertaining writer, I much more prefer your MNG writing style to the aforementioned alias. I do, however, understand the pressure to "tone it down" a bit for the national readership...I can't believe I've been reading you for years and not knowing! I will look forward to many future written encounters...

Another anonymous, but loyal, reader checking in (for the first time). Please tell us where we can read the other side of MNG - reading all of these comments has me intrigued. I even keep checking back on this comments section JUST IN CASE you've already revealed yourself!
